SSB Interview Day Wise Procedure 2017?

QUESTION: – WHAT IS THE SEQUENCE AND TYPES OF TESTING AT THE SSB CENTRE

ANSWER: – 5 DAYS SSB SCHEDULE

DAY 1 (REPORTING DAY)

AS PER THE CALL LETTER, USUALLY THE REPORTING TIME IS IN THE AFTERNOON/ MORNING & PLACE IS MOVEMENT CONTROL OFFICE (MCO), LOCATED AT THE RAILWAY STATION. ON REPORTING DAY YOU ARE GIVEN A DETAILED BRIEF ABOUT THE TESTS & INSTRUCTIONS & TIMINGS FOR VARIOUS THINGS. PIQ (PERSONAL INFORMATION QUESTIONNAIRE) FORMS ARE TO BE FILLED. PAY FULL ATTENTION TO ALL INSTRUCTIONS FOR FULL COMPLIANCE.

DAY 2. STAGE 1 TESTING- SCREENING

SCREENING IS THE PROCESS DESIGNED TO SELECT POTENTIAL CANDIDATES FOR DETAILED SELECTION, FROM ALL THOSE WHO HAVE REPORTED FOR THE PARTICULAR ENTRY AND ELIMINATE THE UNSUITABLE. IT COMPRISES OF OIR TEST AND PPDT. THOSE WHO DO NOT QUALIFY ARE SENT BACK AND OTHERS REMAIN FOR THE MAIN STAGE 2 SSB. THIS PROVES TO BE A NEMESIS FOR A LARGE NUMBER OF CANDIDATES SINCE 40% OR EVEN HIGHER PERCENTAGE OF CANDUDATES GET ELIMINATED IN THIS STAGE. IT IS THUS IMPORTANT TO BE FULLY AWARE OF THE TYPE AND PROCESS OF SELECTION FOLLOWED DURING THIS STAGE.

OFFICER’S INTELLIGENCE RATING (OIR) TEST

IT IS SIMILAR TO THE INTELLIGENCE TESTS OF REASONING (VERBAL & NON-VERBAL) GIVEN IN VARIOUS COMPETITIVE EXAMINATIONS PREPARATORY BOOKS & MAGAZINES. REASONING ABILITY, AS WELL AS SPEED OF REASONING IS IMPORTANT. IT IS ADVISABLE TO PRACTICE THESE TO GET A GOOD SCORE.

SCREENING TEST: PICTURE PERCEPTION & DISCUSSION TEST (PPDT)

IT INVOLVES TWO ASPECTS- FIRST IS WRITING A STORY, & SECOND IS A GROUP DISCUSSION ON THE STORY. YOU WILL BE SHOWN A BLACK & WHITE, HAZY PICTURE FOR 30 SECS.YOU ARE REQUIRED TO WRITE SOME PARTICULARS IN THE AVAILABLE BOX IN THE ANSWER SHEET, WHICH INCLUDES NO OF CHARACTERS, THEIR AGE, SEX & MOOD. THE ENTIRE STORY HAS TO BE WRITTEN IN ABOUT 3 MINS & SUBMITTED.

TIPS FOR STORY WRITING

DON’T WRITE A PREPARED STORY. IT WILL NOT MATCH WITH THE PICTURE AND THUS, MAKE NO SENSE. LISTEN TO THE INSTRUCTIONS VERY CAREFULLY AND FOLLOW THEM TO THE FULLEST. SUCH CONTRIVED ‘POSITIVE’ STORIES CAN BE EASILY FOUND OUT BY THE ASSESSORS. SUCH STORIES HAVE AN ADVERSE IMPACT ON THE CHANCES OF SELECTION FOR THE CANDIDATE. GUIDANCE REGARDING THE CORRECT PROCESS OF STORY WRITING TO BE FOLLOWED IS PROVIDED BY OUR EXPERTS.

DISCUSSION REQUIREMENT

CANDIDATES ARE ORGANIZED IN GROUPS OF 14-15 FOR GROUP DISCUSSION. EACH CANDIDATE IS REQUIRED TO NARRATE HIS STORY BY TURN. AFTER EVERYONE HAS NARRATED HIS/HER STORY THE GROUP IS REQUIRED TO DISCUSS THE SAME & ARRIVE AT A CONSENSUS STORY. THE GROUP IS REQUIRED TO NOMINATE A LEADER WHO HAS TO NARRATE THE STORY ON BEHALF OF THE ENTIRE GROUP.

TIPS FOR DISCUSSION:

NARRATE YOUR STORY CONFIDENTLY IN A CLEAR VOICE IN ABOUT ONE MINUTE. DURING DISCUSSION DO NOT FORCE YOUR VIEWS ON OTHERS. LISTEN TO THEIR IDEAS ALSO. NEVER LOOK AT THE ASSESSORS WHILE NARRATING THE STORY, OR DURING THE DISCUSSION. LISTEN TO THE SPEAKERS ATTENTIVELY. BE POLITE, GIVE YOUR IDEAS & VIEWS ONLY, & DO NOT ARGUE WITH OTHERS. IN CASE THE ENTIRE GROUP IS SHOUTING, AS HAPPENS IN MOST GROUPS, DO NOT TRY TO OUT SHOUT OTHERS, BUT WAIT FOR THE RIGHT OPPORTUNITY TO INTERJECT. DO NOT TRY TO DOMINATE THE DISCUSSION BY SPEAKING MORE AND REPEATING YOUR IDEAS. THE QUALITY AND WEIGHT OF YOUR VIEWS IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN HOW MUCH YOU SPEAK. HELP THE WEAK MEMBERS TO SPEAK UP. IN CASE YOUR STORY IS DIFFERENT FROM THE ENTIRE GROUP, IT IS SENSIBLE TO CHANGE YOUR VIEWS & HELP THE GROUP IN FORMING A CONSENSUS STORY, RATHER THAN TRYING TO FORCE THE GROUP TOWARDS YOUR VIEWPOINT.

RESULTS OF SCREENING:

AFTER THE COMPLETION OF PPDT, YOU WILL GET A BREAK OF 2-3 HOURS. SCREENING RESULTS WILL BE DECLARED AFTER IT. SELECTED CANDIDATES ARE ALLOTTED WITH NEW CHEST NUMBERS. REST OF THE CANDIDATES GET THEIR TA AND ARE DROPPED BACKED TO THE RAILWAY STATION.

DAY 3 STAGE-2 OF TESTING

PSYCHOLOGY TESTS IN SSB

UNDERSTANDING PSYCHOLOGY TESTS IN SSB

PERSONALITY ASSESSMENT CONDUCTED IN SSBS IS BASED ON THE SCIENCE OF PSYCHOLOGY. PSYCHOLOGY IS COMPLEX SCIENCE, AND THUS IMPLIES THAT THERE ARE NOT ALWAYS ABSOLUTE & DEFINITE YES, OR NO ANSWERS TO PROBLEMS, OR SITUATIONS. THE BATTERY OF PSYCHOLOGY TESTS CONDUCTED IN SSB IS BASED ON PROJECTIVE TECHNIQUES. PROJECTIVE TECHNIQUES WORK ON THE ESTABLISHED FACT THAT WHEN WE DESCRIBE AMBIGUOUS STIMULI, WE ACTUALLY DESCRIBE OURSELVES, & REVEAL OUR PERSONALITIES, THROUGH OUR CONSCIOUS PART (OF WHICH WE ARE WELL AWARE) & EVEN THE UNCONSCIOUS PART (OF WHICH WE ARE UNAWARE)! THE UNCONSCIOUS PART OF THE BRAIN IS ASSESSED BY SOME AS BEING 9/10th PART & CONSCIOUS ONLY 1/10th PART. ASSESSMENT OF AN INDIVIDUAL IS DONE ON THE ENTIRE TESTS AND NOT PIECE MEAL   . PERSONALITY OF AN INDIVIDUAL IS ONE WHOLE AND DYNAMIC IN NATURE. WORK TO IMPROVE YOUR PERSONALITY, WITH HELP OF OUR EXPERTS AND LEAVE THE ASSESSMENT TO THE EXPERTS!

FOLLOWING PSYCHOLOGY TESTS ARE CONDUCTED:

THEMATIC APPERCEPTION TEST [TAT]

WORD ASSOCIATION TEST [WAT]

SITUATION REACTION TEST [SRT]

SELF DESCRIPTION TEST [SD]

TAT

YOU WILL BE SHOWN 11 BLACK & WHITE PICTURES IN WHICH THE LAST PICTURE IS A BLANK SLIDE. EACH PICTURE WILL COME JUST FOR 30 SECONDS AND THEN DISAPPEAR, AFTER THAT YOU WILL GET 4 MINUTES TO WRITE THE STORY BASED ON THAT PICTURE. AFTER 4 MINS ANOTHER PICTURE WILL COME FOR 30 SECONDS AND SAME PROCESS WILL BE FOLLOWED TILL LAST SLIDE BLANK SLIDE.

WAT

YOU WILL BE SHOWN 60 WORDS BACK TO BACK; EACH WORD WILL REMAIN ON THE SCREEN FOR 15SECS. IN 15SECS YOU ARE REQUIRED TO WRITE A SENTENCE WHICH COMES TO YOUR MIND FIRST AFTER READING THAT WORD. LIKEWISE YOU HAVE TO WRITE 60 SENTENCES CONTINUOUSLY WITHOUT ANY PAUSE IN BETWEEN.

ONLY THE SPONTANEOUS RESPONSE IS CONSISTENT WITH THE PERSONALITY OF THE CANDIDATE. THE PSYCHOLOGIST ANALYSES THE COMPLETE RESPONSES TO CONSTRUCT A HOLISTIC & CONSISTENT PERSONALITY OF THE INDIVIDUAL. ANY PREPARED RESPONSE WILL BE INCONSISTENT WITH THE COMPLETE BATTERY OF ANSWERS & HENCE WILL GET IGNORED.

SRT

YOU WILL GET A BOOKLET WITH 60 SITUATIONS WRITTEN ON IT. YOU ARE REQUIRED TO WRITE YOUR RESPONSES BASED ON THOSE 60 SITUATIONS. TIME ALLOTTED WILL BE 30 MINS.

TIPS: ANSWER SPONTANEOUSLY. THE MAIN CHARACTER IN THE SITUATIONS SHOULD BE A LEADER, WHO SHOULD TRY TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEMS PROACTIVELY FOR THE BETTERMENT OF EVERYONE & NOT WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN.

SD

YOU ARE REQUIRED TO WRITE AN OPINION ABOUT YOU FROM YOUR PARENTS’, FRIENDS’, TEACHERS’ & YOUR OWN PERSPECTIVE AND THINGS WHICH YOU WOULD LIKE TO DEVELOP IN THE FUTURE. TIME ALLOTTED WILL BE 15 MINS.

TIPS: YOU SHOULD GO PREPARED. WRITE THE TRUTH. OPINIONS OF OTHERS, AS WELL AS YOURSELF ABOUT YOU ARE BASICALLY A BRIEF ABOUT YOUR STRONG & WEAK POINTS. THE STRONG POINTS SHOULD BE MORE THAN THE WEAK POINTS. IN CASE THE REVERSE IS TRUE, IT SHOWS THAT YOU HAVE NOT TAKEN ENOUGH ACTION TO IMPROVE YOURSELF, DESPITE BEING AWARE OF YOUR WEAKNESSES.

OVERALL TIPS FOR PSYCHOLOGY TESTS

THINK FAST; WRITE FAST, LEGIBLY & IN CORRECT SEQUENCE.

IT IS NOT MANDATORY TO COMPLETE EVERYTHING, BUT THE CANDIDATE WHO CAN COMPLETE EVERYTHING DEFINITELY THINKS FASTER & HAS BETTER MENTAL STAMINA THAN THE ONE WHO DOES NOT.

DAYS 4 & 5: GTO TESTS

GTO TESTS ARE A SERIES OF OUTDOOR TESTS, DESIGNED TO JUDGE YOUR QUALITIES DURING GROUP PERFORMANCE. REMEMBER MOST OF THE TASKS IN THIS SERIES ARE GROUP TASKS. YOU ARE REQUIRED TO SUPPORT THE GROUP WITH THE BEST OF YOUR ABILITIES AND NOT TO COMPETE WITH THEM IN ANY MANNER.

SERIES OF TESTS:

GD: DISCUSSION IS ON TWO TOPICS, ONE IS A DEBATABLE TOPIC FROM CURRENT AFFAIRS & THE OTHER IS ON A SOCIAL ISSUE.

GPE: GROUP PLANNING EXERCISE: IT IS AN IMPORTANT TEST IN THE GTO SERIES. A SITUATION IS GIVEN TO YOU. IT IS SUPPORTED BY A SAND MODEL/ MAP. INVARIABLY A GROUP OF PERSONS HAS TO GO FROM ONE PLACE TO ANOTHER, IN A LIMITED TIME & ACCOMPLISH AN IMPORTANT TASK. IN BETWEEN PROBLEMS ARE CONFRONTED WHICH NEED TO BE RESOLVED, & IN CASE A PROBLEM IS UNIMPORTANT & RESOLUTION WILL PREVENT YOU FROM ACCOMPLISHING THE MAIN TASK THEN IT HAS TO BE IGNORED, OR RESOLVED TO THE EXTENT THAT THE MAIN TASK IS NOT JEOPARDIZED. A WRITTEN, INDIVIDUAL, SOLUTION HAS TO BE SUBMITTED. THE GROUP HAS TO DISCUSS THE PLAN, ARRIVE AT A CONSENSUS PLAN, AND NOMINATE A LEADER TO NARRATE THE PLAN. IT IS A COMPREHENSIVE TEST, WHICH BRINGS OUT THE ASPECTS OF LOGICAL THINKING, ABILITY TO CONVINCE OTHERS WITH YOUR VIEWS, ACCEPT IDEAS FROM OTHERS WHICH ARE BETTER THAN YOURS, OR ARE MORE ACCEPTABLE TO OTHERS. TIPS: CONCENTRATE TO UNDERSTAND THE SITUATION WELL. SUBMIT A COMPREHENSIVE & WELL WRITTEN PLAN. BE PREPARED TO ACCEPT OTHERS’ IDEAS. DO NOT TRY TO RESOLVE ANY INTERMEDIARY PROBLEM WHICH WILL PREVENT YOU FROM ACCOMPLISHING THE MAIN TASK.

PGT: IN PROGRESSIVE GROUP TASK, THE GROUP IS REQUIRED TO CROSS SOME OBSTACLES WITH THE HELP OF SUPPORTING MATERIALS LIKE ROPE, PLANK, WOODEN LOG ETC. SOME RULES ARE REQUIRED TO BE FOLLOWED DURING THIS TASK. IT IS A FULL GROUP ACTIVITY.

HGT: HALF GROUP TASK IS SIMILAR TO PGT BUT THE NUMBER OF GROUP MEMBERS WILL BE HALF, SO YOU MAY GET MORE CHANCE TO SHOW YOUR POTENTIAL.

IOT– IN INDIVIDUAL OBSTACLES TASK, YOU ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEMPT 10 OBSTACLES INDIVIDUALLY; EACH OBSTACLE CONSISTS OF SOME POINTS FROM 1 TO 10.TIPS: IT APPEARS TO BE MAINLY A TEST OF SPEED & STRENGTH, BUT IS NOT SO. PLAN THE SEQUENCE OF CROSSING THE OBSTACLES WITH A VIEW TO SCORE MAXIMUM MARKS EARLIEST. IF YOU ARE IN DOUBT ABOUT CLEARING AN OBSTACLE ATTEMPT IT TOWARDS THE END. IN CASE YOU HAVE BEGUN TO CROSS AN OBSTACLE, THEN DO NOT LEAVE IT IN BETWEEN, AS THIS DISPLAYS LACK OF DETERMINATION & SELF CONFIDENCE.

COMMAND TASK:

YOU WILL BE A COMMANDER IN THIS TASK, & ARE REQUIRED TO CROSS SOME OBSTACLES WITH THE HELP OF 2-3 SUBORDINATES. YOU CAN CHOOSE 2-3 CANDIDATES FROM YOUR OWN GROUP WHOM YOU THINK CAN HELP YOU TO CLEAR THE OBSTACLES.

TIPS: CHOOSE SUBORDINATES BASED ON COMPETENCE, RATHER THAN FRIENDSHIP. IN CASE YOU ARE STUCK, ASK IDEAS FROM SUBORDINATES. CT IS ASSIGNED TO EACH CANDIDATE BASED ON HIS ABILITIES. IN CASE YOUR CT IS QUITE DIFFICULT, THEN BE HAPPY, YOUR IQ HAS BEEN WELL RATED.

SNAKE RACE/GROUP OBSTACLE RACE:

ALL GROUP MEMBERS WILL BE COMPETING WITH OTHER GROUPS. MEMBERS WILL BE HOLDING A SNAKE LIKE ROPE; THEY ARE REQUIRED TO CROSS CERTAIN OBSTACLES WITH THE SNAKE. THERE ARE CERTAIN RULES LIKE ALL OTHER TASKS. IT IS A KIND OF RACE AMONG DIFFERENT GROUPS.

TIPS: USE YOUR ABILITIES TO HELP THE GROUP FINISH THE RACE FASTEST.

INDIVIDUAL LECTURRETE: EACH CANDIDATE HAS TO SPEAK FOR 3 MINS ON A TOPIC SELECTED BY HIM/HER OUT OF 3-4 TOPICS.

FGT: FINAL GROUP TASK:

FGT IS SIMILAR TO PGT.

TIPS FOR PGT, HGT, CT & FGT: INITIALLY IT WILL BE DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND THE USE OF THE HELPING MATERIAL IN CROSSING OBSTACLES. DO NOT WORRY, KEEP THINKING & OBSERVING. IDEAS UTILIZED IN CROSSING ONE OBSTACLE WILL HAVE RELEVANCE IN OTHERS AS WELL. AFTER PGT YOU WILL HAVE BETTER IDEAS FOR LATER TASKS. EACH TASK HAS MORE THAN ONE SOLUTION. PLEASE ADHERE TO INSTRUCTIONS.

PERSONAL INTERVIEW IN THE AFTERNOON OF DAY 4 OR 5

THE INTERVIEWING OFFICER HAS YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION QUESTIONNAIRE (PIQ) FORM, WHICH PROVIDES HIM THE BASE FOR YOUR INTERVIEW. HE STARTS TALKING IN A RELAXED MANNER TO MAKE YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE. HE THEN ASKS YOU A SERIES OF QUESTIONS TO WHICH YOU ARE EXPECTED TO ANSWER IN THE SAME SEQUENCE. HE KEEPS ASKING SMALL QUESTIONS IN BETWEEN. HE AGAIN ASKS YOU A SERIES OF QUESTIONS, TO BE REPLIED AS EARLIER.

TIPS:

BE RELAXED & CONFIDENT OF BEING SELECTED.

WRITE ONLY THE TRUTH IN THE PIQ FORM, WITHOUT EXAGGERATION OTHERWISE, YOU WOULD BE HARD PRESSED TO ANSWER THE VOLLEY OF QUESTIONS.

LISTEN CAREFULLY TO THE QUESTIONS, WITHOUT GETTING EXCITED. ANSWER THE QUESTIONS IN THE SEQUENCE ASKED. HAVE GOOD KNOWLEDGE ABOUT YOUR FAVORITE SUBJECTS, SPORTS, HOBBIES, ETC. IF YOU SAY THAT YOU HAVE READ A BOOK, OR SEEN A MOVIE, OR TV PROGRAM, AND THEN YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT IT WELL.

BE PREPARED TO EXPLAIN ORGANIZATION OF AN EVENT FROM YOUR HOBBIES, SPORTS OR EXTRA -CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES, YOU HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN.

DAY 6: CONFERENCE IN SSB

IN THE CONFERENCE EACH CANDIDATE FACES ALL THE SSB ASSESSORS TOGETHER. DECISION ABOUT SELECTION OF CANDIDATES IS TAKEN IN THE CONFERENCE BY THE ASSESSORS. EACH CASE IS DISCUSSED IN DETAIL TO TAKE A DELIBERATE DECISION.

AS REGARDS YOU, IT IS JUST A FORMALITY, AS DECISIONS ARE TAKEN BASED ON YOUR PERFORMANCE ON TESTS CONDUCTED EARLIER & NOT CONFERENCE. USUALLY QUESTIONS ABOUT FOOD, EXPERIENCE & STAY ARE ASKED BY THE INTERVIEWING OFFICER. ONLY SHORT ANSWERS ARE WARRANTED.

IN CASE THERE IS LACK OF CONSENSUS IN THE ASSESSMENT BY THE THREE ASSESSORS, THEN SOME ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS/SITUATIONS ARE POSED TO THE CANDIDATE & HE/SHE SHOULD REPLY SENSIBLY, AS IT MAY INFLUENCE THE FINAL SELECTION.

The  SSB Procedure is same for Indian Navy, Army and Air force.

SSB Preparation Guide?

  1. The general curiosity amongst young candidates who qualify the written exam for NDA, CDS, Naval Academy(NA), ACC, NCC “C” Certificate or CW entry is now what to do, How to prepare for Service Selection Board(SSB), and suddenly an anxiety takes over the mind in a positive way for some and negative for others. Will I clear SSB? How should I prepare for the SSB?, How difficult will be the Obstacle Course?, Am I fit to clear the Medicals?…….and so on.
  1. So how to overcome the curiosity and start to prepare is the question. The best way is  to understand what qualities SSB interview, is looking in a candidate to qualify. The basic qualities(or OLQ – Officer Like Qualities)  are:-
  • Effective intelligence
  • Sense of responsibility
  • Initiative
  • Judgment (under stress),
  • Ability to reason and organize
  • Communication skills
  • Determination
  • Courage
  • Self-confidence
  • Speed in decision-making
  • Willingness to set an example
  • Compassion and a feeling of loyalty to the nation.
  1. Most of the above qualities are present in a every person , however application of those qualities in everyday life depends on the individual personality and habits . The SSB attempts to gauge the natural responses of the individuals.  So when you report for SSB interview till you leave the place, every individual is assessed for his individual and team behavior. Honestly if you are a team man with logical thinking skills – with confidence to overcome the situation positively , even when chips are down – irrespective of what may be the outcome,  you are what SSB is looking for.
  1. So how do we start preparing for SSB?

The best way is to began preparation for SSB, even before appearing for the qualifying written exam, say about six months from the likely time of getting a SSB call. It would be nice to meet up with some Ex- SSB officer for general guidance in your city, if you are in Pune, visit www.learninganddevelopment.co.in/ssb  for one day free counseling on SSB by qualified Ex- Psychologist of SSB or have a  7 days coaching session which is more than enough, post this only practice is required. Once you have got the clear picture of what are the tests conducted in SSB and how to prepare for them – following additional points will help you prepare further to crack the SSB-

  •  Keep yourself physically active by jogging 2-3 kms 4-5 days a week.
  •  Visit NCC units / Sports Institutes and attempt the obstacle course once in two weeks.
  • Get yourself a general medical checkup done in reputed hospital.
  • Read News paper daily and magazines like “Competition Success Review” and make notes.
  • Participate in School and College Debate  Group discussions or with friends.
  • Try to visual positives in each situation you face in daily life and make it a habit.
  • If you are a loner by nature , inculcate habit to be friendly to all.
  • Try to give positive ideas in a group , but do not force them, learn to agree to disagree.
  • Be a sport not all can win a race , but yes all can attempt a race – that’s Important.
  • When in a group ensure – every one feels important and wanted – because team strength will be know by the weakest link in the chain.
  • Learn to be decisive – it does not matter if you are right or wrong but decide with logic and reason best to your ability and experience.
  • In a team nothing matters more than loyalty – Inculcate habit to be a team man.
  • While you think positive – it is also important to translate your thoughts into writing so keep writing fast and clearly it will help.
  1. To conclude I would like to emphasis that above things if done routinely for six months will inculcate the traits in you that SSB is looking for. All the best to  Prospective candidates. Cheers God Bless.

Can Artificial Intelligence make the Drones deadly ?

UAV-IR-Picture
UAV -IR Image

” Artificial Intelligence platform developed by indigenous software Company with product engineering DNA can enhance the capabilities of the security force”

The combination of Artificial intelligence (AI) and Unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV) / drone can be a deadly cocktail. I am not talking about  using Artificial Intelligence for flying ,monitoring or navigating the UAV, this is something what Artificial Intelligence has to offer and machine learning ensures. Let me paint the scenario –  02.00 am Drone on night surveillance mission and the  pilot controlling from the ground control station is looking for say infiltrators  along the border.  He is focussed on the monitor screen straining his eyes and using the thermal imaging to look for human activity indication  in mountain  terrain or pinpoint  foot marks  in the snow or the rugged hilly terrain. Now, how can digital disruption enhance the capability of the mission .It is pertinent to mention here that the Artificial Intelligence all by itself cannot solve problem but the Artificial Intelligence tool can be bought up to speed by self learning which we call as machine learning. The Artificial Intelligence platform can quickly consume huge amount of data and quickly join the dots to predict based on huge data bank and assist the operator in quicker identification of suspect target.

Taking a step further the platform can be trained to identify whether the target is carrying a weapon and also can plot his movements, following footmarks on the snow/attempts to obliterate it. Another use case can be to detect/identify  any activity near the launching pad or any type of silhouette changes or fresh tracks. Similarly any freshly broken branches in thickly wooded area can indicate intruder activity.

Let me now come to the crux – the drone is going to provide video streaming from a standoff distance to the control station. The Artificial Intelligence program will function by using the  videos  streaming from  the drone and applying a series of algorithms . Algorithms  are basically mathematical procedures that are like a flow chart to compare the object seen with thousands of stored reference images of target  in different postures/angles/movements/positions. So reference images giving height /shape or action whether it has a head /hands/legs is compared. On the lighter side a mountain goat  seen by the camera will immediately compare with the data bank and tell it to be not a human .  Here using the model of human brain , machine learning teaches Artificial Intelligence learn new things, recognize patterns and make decisions and raise alert  in near real time for the security forces to take proactive action to neutralize the threat.

The value proposition  here is the ability of the Artificial Intelligence tool to consume vast amount of data(big data) in short time and drawing conclusions based on certain rule sets followed .In typical existing scenario -assuming that the operator has identified (?) the activity and now he will rewind/pause/zoom many times to be sure. But the Artificial Intelligence tool in near real time can raise a alert (even if a false positive).

AI- Self Learning - Human Brain
Artificial Neural s

Human brain and Artificial Intelligence

Such Artificial Neural Network  platform is designed to consume  vast quantity of structured and unstructured data and then analyse it for desired results.

The video analytics platform will have  the capability to identify the human form/tank/bunker or any selected object . When such a object say in this case intruder violates a preset rule[say any human movement in marked area] then an alert is generated .And based on the alert say a  red box is generated on the suspicious target and it follows it and thereby his direction of movement can also be predicted.

It is characteristic of such program that it is self learning So the programmer needs to set rules for all things that the operator wishes to be alerted. The vast experience of the human operator can further enhance the learning of the recognition tool. the images recognized and the silhouette are classified. Just imagine the impact of such a Artificial Intelligence platform integrated with Machine learning in operation for say couple of  months. The tool will self learn and become a credible support system for the forces against infiltration . Every such sighting will improve the tool and the results will tilt in favour of the security forces .

Detect - Capture description - Match with the data bank
Detect – Match – Capture

Detect > Capture description > Match with the data bank

Just like humans, machines will continue to improve as they learn … by doing.

“The biggest advantage to machine learning is that it allows us to do things much more quickly than we’d be able to do otherwise,” said Singh.

Artificial neural networks (ANN) use algorithms to learn things, recognize patterns and make decisions. They mimic the way the human brain solves a problem — by taking in inputs, processing them and generating an output.

Learning algorithms come in three subsets: supervised, semi-supervised and unsupervised learning. The first two require large sets of training data to guide the desired results.

SSB Training in Pune

TOP SSB Institutes in India

The city of Pune is known to have contributed to the  Armed forces in a vast manner, mainly due to  the prestigious National Defence Academy, (NDA) being the motivator for youth, and the facilities available for Veterans like education for children, Job Opportunities  and quality of lifestyle makes it an ideal settling avenue. Obviously the attraction to join forces in youth is high in Pune as NDA and Veterans become the force multipliers in form of positive examples and encouragements. So  the demand for SSB training in Pune or SSB Coaching in Pune  or SSB Classes in Pune is growing and hence the fee too. Not only candidates from Pune, but nearby districts like Sangli, Satara, and Nagar till Kolhapur reach Pune for SSB Training.

So what is it that SSB (Services Selection Board) looking out in you?

Selection Boards do not look for ‘ideal’ Personalities. They recognise that each person has some healthy personality characteristic and may be deficient in some other characteristics and that each individual has potential within himself to improve and develop those areas of personality where he finds himself deficient. Therefore SSB looks for a balanced person who can deal intelligently with a variety of situations in his day to day activity, in which some situations are very easy, some very difficult and majority of a average difficulty.

The type of person sought by the SSB therefore is one who possesses positive qualities and not just the absence of negative qualities .A person who can enjoy life and provide opportunities for others to enjoy. A lively person who can feel anger, sadness of jealousy and can even express these feelings under appropriate circumstances without being influenced by resentment and hostility. A person who is not subservient but is an independent worthwhile individual with abilities, skills, feeling and aspirations, to improve and progress and has the desire to lead a productive, eventful and self realizing life. In short, a person who has the aptitude and capacity to fit in the Armed forces who will feel happy and satisfied with his experience as a service Officer.

How is SSB conducted?

The SSB exercise is mainly a series of psychological tests of the personality of the candidate, to gauge his/her potential as a future officer. The tests conducted by the SSB aim at selecting individuals with OLQs (Officer-Like Qualities).

The selection system is designed over a five-day process, Day 1 is the screening test, Day 2 is the Psychologist Tests, Day 3 & 4 is the group tasks and Day 5 is the Conference (Results). The personal interview will be conducted either in day 2,3 or 4 during the post lunch or evening hours.

OLQs  include Effective Intelligence, sense of responsibility, initiative, judgment (under stress), ability to reason and organize, communication skills, determination, courage, self-confidence, speed in decision-making, willingness to set an example, compassion and social adjustment.

Most of the tests require average intelligence. The SSB attempts to gauge the natural responses of the individuals. The tests are graded into various categories of both individual and group variety and each batch of candidates goes through the subtle testing pattern in the course of a few days. They are under observation not only while they perform in various psychological tests but even as they conduct themselves during the course of their stay at the SSB Centres, where they are billeted for that duration.

The SSB Board is not concerned with the number of vacancies. Its responsibility is to assess and then, recommend. After recommendation, the candidates go for the medical test and after that is the Merit List. Those who finally make the grade join for training and hence become Commissioned Officers.

Origin of this type of testing belongs to First World War era. In the First World War, large numbers of casualties on battlefields necessitated recruitment of best fighting talent in armed forces. For this need, psychologists designed some scientific tests which assess candidate’s Officer Like Qualities (OLQs). Over the years SSB testing has been improved based on feedback and has been proved to be an effective and accurate way of selecting Defence Officers.

Importance of Front office

Reception
Front Office

Being a big company needs a reputation to be maintained, its not about the boss’s personality, it’s about the aura and feel when someone visits your office for the first time.

The trigger for this write up was from the article , on linkedin yesterday, read on by clicking

The gentleman in the above mentioned article had been for an interview and was waiting for his turn in the front office. Most likely due to unprofessional conduct on part of that company HR , despite three hours wait , the interview did not happen. Now the three hours wait in front office must have been a lesson and good insight into companies morals, ethics, discipline , employee happiness and code of conduct. All this is directly related to reputation management in terms of impression gathered by person waiting in front office and word of mouth spread of experience in front office as perceived by the visitor.

Let me also share another example , which happened personally with me some years ago. I had an interview scheduled with a reputed builder whose office was situated in the annex of a reputed leisure club. I happened to be accompanied by my elder daughter who had been recently appointed to INC and was very excited with the code of conduct of employees therein. So we reached the builders office, and informed the receptionist, that I have an appointment with HR for an interview. The interview was for an senior position and hence it was expected that HR would have informed front office about the same, since I was the only candidate that day. However the receptionist , insisted , to tell her what post , I have applied for and how etc, do I know the HR and so on and so forth. Then she asked me to have a seat and wait. Hereafter it was a lesson of most – what not to do , was happening at the air conditioned beautifully crafted reception(Front Office), despite camera’s been available probably no one was monitoring at HR/Admin/EDP level.

As I was waiting with my daughter in the reception, firstly the receptionist was not fluent in english, and her talking pitch being high was creating unwanted chatter at the front end. She had got her tiffin and wanted it to share with office boy, who insisted that in AC environment we should not eat. Then another buddy came and was showing her a video clip on whatsapp and they were giggling aloud. Then her personal phones started in marathi concurrently intercom calls were happening most of them missed. Whenever any employee came to check why calls were not being received, she was giving trivial excuses like had gone out , or was on another call etc.

Imagine a prospective buyer, or a group of investors visiting the same office and seen such conduct , would they have invested. Anyway then , I reminded the lady about the time and my interview schedule, herein she called up the HR and then asked me to visit him. There was a office boy sitting there, but he was on his mobile so, I was told to go one floor down and ask for Head HR office, when I reached down , it had a security access card system to enter, and the card was with the office boy, hence had to come back to take the same…….., finally had my interview and tried my best diplomatic skill to indicate to HR that front office needs training to hone their skills.

As me and daughter walked towards the car , she said dad please do not take a job here, the front office story tells the weakness of management and lack of accountability in this company. I could just say, how true. The point herein is with my 27 years experience and my daughter’s few days experience with a top class corporate, both came to the same inference about the company, just by being at the reception for a while.

So to conclude , it would be appropriate to say front desk is the mirror of your company conduct and an important factor to reputation management. Therefore it is pertinent to place skilled and able staff in the frontdesk , who are by conduct and mannerism able to further reputation of the company and make everyone visiting, feel important and provide a happiness factor.

UNDERSTANDING HUMAN ERRORS IN AIRCRAFT ACCIDENTS

Committing errors by man has a historical background. The first ever error committed by man, perhaps, was Adam eating the apple in the Garden of Eden. He was then forced to look for a scapegoat and found one in Eve!!

INTRODUCTION

Committing errors by man has a historical background. The first ever error committed by man, perhaps, was Adam eating the apple in the Garden of Eden. He was then forced to look for a scapegoat and found one in Eve!! Since then, whenever accidents have occurred, it was assumed that some man had committed an error and a scapegoat had to be found. From the time the Wright brothers took to air in 1903, aircraft have been involved in accidents. More often than not, the cause of the accident was attributed to the pilot essentially because there was no one else on whom the blame could be attached. This attitude stemmed from the belief that aviation as a skill was difficult to master or acquire. Further, it was the pilot who dared to go against the laws of nature, and in his quest to attain parity with the birds, was prone to committing errors.

PILOT ERROR

The term pilot error, as has been mentioned earlier, was derived from the belief that in an aircraft accident the only human who could cause a crash was the pilot. This belief gained momentum during the Battle of Britain when pilots in their exuberance beat up the homes of their girlfriends and crashed, or forgot to lower the undercarriage after executing victory rolls at hair- raising altitudes. With instances of ‘pilot errors showing an alarming rise, Air Marshal Dowding, the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Fighter Command, Royal Air Force was compelled to issue instructions that pilots who behaved irrationally should be punished with the utmost severity. Indian Air Force inherited these instructions and has been following it most rigidly ever since.

It was in the late 1970s, after a thorough examination of aircraft accidents in the United States Air Force, that it came to be believed that aircraft accidents are caused because of failure of some human: it could be the designer who made a faulty design, a Met officer who did not appreciate the rapid changes in weather; the technician who overlooked an essential check, the Air Traffic Controller who gave incorrect instructions, or the pilot who failed to follow instructions. Lack of flying skills or judgments was other reasons attributed to the human. Hence from pilot error, the world of aviation moved to the era of human error.

HUMAN ERROR

Psychologists have assessed that the brain is one of the-most complex organs in the human body which, at times, defies logic. Prediction of human actions or reactions is, therefore, quite complex. It would, indeed, be a miracle if two humans were to react identically to a situation in identical conditions. Since the human brain is central to all acts of omission or commission by an individual, it stands to reason that the causal factors need to be studied in greater detail. Paradoxically, we tend to find a scapegoat rather than dig into the accident to realize the cause.

Lloyd and Tye in their book ‘Systematic Safety suggest that ‘an accident or serious incident is a systematic failure of the overall system. Or, as Professor KR Andrews of USA puts it, ‘Every accident is a failure of the organisation. Hence, the system or the organization itself needs to be investigated in an aircraft accident to determine probable failure zones. For example, a technician goes to the accounts section to collect his pay at 10 am. He must collect his pay for he has to proceed on leave next day at 5 am to attend to his ailing mother at his village. The accounts officer tells him to come back at 11 am because as per section orders no payment is to be made before this time. The airman gets back to his Squadron and is told to carry out Turn Around Servicing on an aircraft. His job entails tightening a nut in one of the flap connections. While tightening the nut, he frequently keeps glancing at his watch so as to be in time to collect his pay. In the bargain he cross-threads the nut, signs the Form 700(aircraft log book) and rushes to the Accounts Section. The aircraft gets airborne and the pilot is unable to lower flaps. He attempts a flapless landing but is unable to control approach speed adequately for a safe landing. The aircraft engages barrier and sustains damage. The verdict: the pilot erred in executing a safe flapless landing. After an in-depth analysis the errant nut, dislodged due to cross-threading, is located. Now the question is who is to blame? The pilot, the technician, the accounts officer or the system?

Errors are a part of human nature. It would be naive to think that we can produce a human, or condition a human who commits no errors. In activities connected with aviation there is a tendency to state that there is no room for error, or in other words ‘errors are forbidden’! Subconsciously, we tend to expect perfection from those who work intimately with aviation safety. A pilot is considered a hero in case he excels in a dog-fight with the enemy, but if there is a landing accident on his return, the pilot is invariably exposed to untold rebuke or reproof. This, in spite of the air traffic controller or the technician is found to have made a mistake. Many a time, a small molehill of an incident is turned into a mountain of an accident.

It is not being suggested that human errors are irrelevant to aircraft accidents. What is being brought out is that instead of homing on to an individual, it would be necessary in the best interest of flight safety, to determine the cause of the accident. If all evidence points towards willful negligence or disobedience of orders, then the individual must be held guilty and suitably punished. If not, then examine the organizational failure(s) that have led to the accident and attempt to eliminate the causes. The urge to blame a human, perhaps, could be an urge to find an outlet for our grief and dismay, to blame somebody. A better and scientific: approach would be to eliminate emotional reactions which attribute blame and responsibility on an individual. If we can establish a gap between the effects of errors and our emotional reactions, then errors would not appear to be a shameful disease but as normal consequences of the performance and characteristics of the human brain.

During a presentation on the Accident Prevention Programme it was amply brought out that errors are an integral part of life. Error is not only universal but is inevitable. Hence one cannot engage in human performance of any form without human error.

CONCLUSION

Over the years, there has been an appreciable shift in the field of aviation to consider human factors more humanely. Understanding of the human mind has become an important facet in investigations; to accept certain accidents and incidents as an inherent inevitability of a human being. While cases of honest acceptance of failure or lapse by an individual must be handled with a degree of leniency, cases of willful failure must attract disciplinary actions, for in the words of Gen George S Patton, “There is only one kind of discipline – perfect discipline”.

Training
Training is key to success

“Train a person such that he wants to leave ,

Treat him so well that he won’t “

Most of us feel to train a person is waste of time because once trained , he will leave for better pastures taking advantage and quoting the training acquired. And isn’t it that we took him because he had the skill sets. Then why does he require training.

Considering the above , let’s assume a scenario – all companies take required skill set people and take work out of them, but still some achieve or exceed targets and some do not. Why is it so, may be setting of targets was not accurate , or market conditions were not good and so on. But if you had ensured high motivation, and skill set training with changing needs to enhance skills customised to your product , of course you would have achieved the targets, made profits and given healthy increments and increased the happiness factor, nobody would have left the company as monetary and personal growth needs would have  also been met along with the targets.

Today the need to customised training is most essential for three reasons:-

a. Thorough knowledge and practical experience in the vertical working in.

b.  Training session increase bonding and hence team work.

c.  Knowledge is power , hence leads to thinking minds  implies innovations.

A trained skilled team of two is worth ten skilled untrained . So the secret of success lies in continuous training to upgrade knowledge and skill sets, and targets will be achieved.

ENTREPRENEURS – EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT DILEMMA

I have fewer money for salaries but employees do not come for free, should I, invest the reserves in business, or keep them for another day…..if I train my employees well, they will leave for greener pastures, and … so on are the many thoughts which cross through a young entrepreneurs mind. Is there an answer to these questions, can anyone help out.

ENTREPRENEURS

I have fewer money for salaries but employees do not come for free, should I, invest the reserves in business, or keep them for another day…..if I train my employees well,  they will leave for greener pastures, and … so on are the many thoughts which cross through a young entrepreneurs mind. Is there an answer to these questions, can anyone help out.

Well speaking from personal experience, humans need respect, space and leadership more than money they earn. I am sure most will put money first. But many have quit jobs because of bad bosses, bad environment at work place, no personal life…..but everyone looks at pay hike too, if skilled you do not give the hike someone else will. Then what to do.

So train a man such that he wants to leave,

Treat him so well that he doesn’t. “

Here comes the question, train to what extent. The answer is best possible extent. Because if:-

“You give a man a fish to eat, he will live for a day,

But if you teach him to catch fish, he will live for life.”

Translate this to your production, if you train a man well he would be useful to you for as long as your startup lasts.

Secondly  how to treat a person well so that he feels part of the process. Consider following :

  1. Respect an individual, he may or may not be of your intellect level, but he may stand with you when it matters. That slight respect has a large dividend pay back.
  2. Space is human need and it varies from time to time as situation arises. For example a person is finding it difficult to adjust to the office routine because he stays very far from office, allow him some time to ensure he comes on time, but do not cut his pay for that. Person needs leave for sister’s wedding, may be for 10 days, give it without questioning, he would stand by you without questioning day and night when required, because he knows if  a personal needs arises in future too, he will be heard and actioned. Someone is going through bad phase in life; praise him for still coming to office rather than checking on his performance during that period.
  3. Make team building a natural process then a forced one, let them cultivate and have their own ways of achieving the goals of company. Make them believe it’s one big family, and we all grow or perish together, leaving one or two bad fish, the rest will click.
  4. Lastly the leadership you provide is what matters. If you are like don’t worry what I do, but you do what I say, then it could be a disaster.  Rather if you show the path and walk along some distance with them, they will cover the full distance without you but for you.

Please add or contribute constructive Suggestions.

REAL ESTATE Vs MOBILE APPLICATION

Trust and reliability every developer claims, however that’s in particular, what a customer is doubting. Reasons are many like commitment have been faltering very often.

1. Trust and reliability every developer claims, however that’s in particular, what a customer is doubting. Reasons are many like commitment have been faltering very often. A developer lately has aptly advertised, possession dates are like monsoons can’t be predicted accurately,  but this particular developer  says he shall give possessions on time – how -will he be able to, time will tell.  The point here is trust deficit is evident between concerned parties(developers and customers) and it needs to be bridged.

2. All conventional means to build trust have been tried however failed due to lack of commitments in past. For example  a pre-launch scheme well covered in media and lots of bookings picked up, but construction not commenced because approvals not in place. Another example a scheme sold to NRIs /investors, and 90% money demanded , where as in actual only 70% development on ground. And no penalty on late possession can be enforced as maximum money already paid  by customers.

3. So the need to get in transparency in dealing customers is  call of the day. The following factors are crucial to make this happen:-

a. live view 24×7 should be available for the project to monitor construction on ground

b. construction link plan should be displayed clearly.

c. cost sheet should be available live without hidden charges

d.  project brief, amenities, photo gallery, floor plans, location address must be specified.

e. Means to communicate between developer and customers should be multiple and available 24×7. eg skpe, toll free phone, whats up, sms, emails, live chat etc.

f. A project sanctions should be made available by govt authorities on their portals, and developer should be able to quote that for transparency.

4. So here comes the relevance, of the title of this article, a modern technology mobile application can provide the contents of  para 3 above  on your smart phones and the deficit in trust can be over come. Obviously for those developers who intent complete transparency in dealing with customers and are serious about bridging the gap that exists today between them and customers. In addition to the camera feeds , live communication and cost sheet issues a payment gateway on the mobile application will ensure credible transactions. The nature of humans is such that when they see a thing they believe, when they are able to communicate at all times they trust and if they pay for what they know is completed they are happy. Similarly a developer too would be happy if he gets the amount for what he has delivered thus far. In Pune only two developers have provided this trust multiplier(mobile application) to its customers and lots of goodwill gained through it.
