HOW TO RESKILL LIFE BEYOND COVID-19 – START TOMORROW

Today the skill to garner is online knowledge or digital marketing. I am sure many think it’s not their cup of tea and it’s too complicated. Believe you me,I can say with confidence and experience that, the language is no barrier to learn Digital Marketing. Also, formal education is not a must. What you need is a PC and net connection to exploit Digital Marketing.

Imagine empty roads, clean air, empty offices and reverse migration of IT workforce along with students from cities to towns. Companies deciding on making telecom and IT infrastructure strong in towns and villages. Add to it, work from home as normal, with renting or buying homes in work cities a matter of past.

So COVID-19 made us wiser or bold. What we could achieve in past, but never attempted. We tailored it in two months of crisis. Human behaviour is a mystery but for sure necessity is the mother of all inventions. Today rivers are so clean that we couldn’t have imagined it without coronavirus visit to this planet.

So whereas, big fish or manageable managed to live on with some dent to lifestyle. The small fish and businesses/employee will either perish or will have to find an alternate source of income. But life moves on. If school shift to teaching online, doctors shift to prescription online, automobile industries shift to staggered shifts and people to only online buying.

Slowly companies will replace manpower by automation as lessons learnt from Coronaviruses will make them think on these lines. The workforce may be replaced by heavy automated machinery which will be fast and never tiring, hence work hours no limitations and speedy completion of projects and no dependency on manpower availability as time is money.

Considering the aforesaid a fear psychosis will engulf many about job security and place to live and survive.

So how do we cope with it?

The part answer would be skill yourself differently, as per new normal. Let us guess what was not affected by Coronavirus. In my opinion two things. First, the existence of life was unaffected for those maintaining physical/social distancing with the hygiene of hand wash repeatedly. In other words safety of the ones who maintained distancing & hygiene discipline.

The second was- all that was online did not get affected during coronavirus.

So first skill for everyone would be to maintain social distance in public & wash your hands regularly. There is no alternative to this, and it’s also hygienic & encourages good health virtues.

Second skill to garner is online knowledge or digital marketing. I am sure many think it’s not their cup of tea and it’s too complicated. Believe you me, I have been a mentor for many years now in an NGO (deAsra – run by Mr Anand Deshpande – MD Persistent) to get people from rural areas to understand the power of digital marketing for their businesses and you will be surprised by their uptake and speed in learning digital marketing (DM) and flourishing at least 10X times in their businesses after implementing DM. I have also addressed Seminars on DM at Symbiosis & National level for MBA & undergraduate students at various forums, I can say with confidence and experience that, the language is no barrier to learn DM. Also, formal education is not a must. What you need is a PC and net connection to exploit DM. But you may always learn it on someone’s aid and once you learn it you may buy or as an employee in a company you may not need your own resources(PC +internet).

If you are a keen learner and know any language (English, Hindi, French, Spanish, Bhojpuri) you can start earning through DM sooner than later in a big way. Today net has voice, text and image searches. You can dictate in your dialect and it will get translated to the language you think your target audiences are on. Some sources of earning through DM are:-

  1. Blogging
  2. Affiliate marketing
  3. Content Writing
  4. Online Education – Teaching
  5. Website development – With CMS available you can develop in one hr.
  6. Mobile application development.
  7. Business Analysis
  8. Advisor for SEO, SEM, SMM
  9. Freelance – Google Ads/ FB Ads
  10. Report generation tools
  11. Auditors of DM tools and Reports
  12. Marketing advisor for companies
  13. Freelancing for sales and marketing
  14. As language translators

The list above can be endless. But trust me do not lose hope catch on to DM the courses vary from two months to six months depending upon your time availability and you can find the online course too.

I have to confess the expressions on faces of my clients at NGO, I see while mentoring them is like DM was so easy, why didn’t, I learn it earlier, it was the mindset in terms of the degree of difficulty and fear of failure. But the satisfaction factor is worth experiencing.

This article is my humble advice to the community at large, do not lose hope, you can and you will overcome this phase too. COVID-19 can stay or go, as future decides, we shall move on to new normal, humans are indeed adaptable.

REAL ESTATE SALES- POST-COVID-19 -PUNE -2020

COVID-19 has been an unprecedented event, which has given rise to many dilemmas for businesses. Similarly, Real-Estate companies in Pune are in a dilemma to sell directly or through Channel Partners(CPs) during and after COVID-19 era.
COVID-19 has set the stage rolling, customer satisfaction/engagement, would not be a physical but digital presentation of sales pitch and closures. So like it or not very soon, you may find homes being sold on the e-commerce platform too.

Therefore prepare for the digital era never experienced before. We also need to strengthen all four pillars of sales digitally, so that customers are virtual with us- anytime, anywhere and buys at a click of a button.

World Digital Marketing Congress

Introduction

COVID-19 has been an unprecedented event, which has given rise to many dilemmas for businesses. Similarly, Real-Estate companies in Pune are in a dilemma to sell directly or through Channel Partners(CPs) during and after COVID-19 era.

Amidst all these dilemmas, one thing is certain that the future Real-Estate sales would be predominantly through digital channels. And with banks reducing loan rates and the government likely to announce stimuli for the sector, how do we prepare for the next 1-2 years to maximise sales.

We are aware that most Real-Estate companies in Pune are not digital savvy as they have been dependent on digital agencies, and many agencies could not meet commitments, due constraints of Softwares, availability to work from home during COVID-19 phase.

The channel partners are confident that, post-COVID-19 they would be the major players in market and builders should rely on them. At the same time, many channel partners are also trying to become digital savvy, which is the right step forward.

Lead generation & Pillars of Sales

The main point here is what drives sales irrespective of pre or posts COVID-19 era?

A simple answer to it is the lead generation ability of a company.

And what do you think is the right mix of sources for a big company to generate leads. In my opinion in times to come the following pillars(sources) will stand scrutiny for company sales performance.

a. Digital Marketing – 35%

b. conventional marketing –15%

c. Referrals – 25%

d. Channel partners –25%

(*approx percentages)

So the other necessities one must have to cater to the big volume lead generation handling, nurturing and converting to sales are-

a. Pre-sales team

b. In house digital team

c. In house sales team (not outsourced)

d. Active Channel Partners who perform month on month

Having established the pillars for sales, now we can argue if anyone pillar does not perform as per intended target/ expectation, entire sales will not collapse.

Let us take an example between companies relying totally on one pillar suppose channel partners or referrals and intended results are not forthcoming or the other competitor hikes the commission or referral fee, then entire sale collapses and you have no contingency left to recover the situation. However, had we given equal weightage to all four pillars of sales and skilled/seasoned them accordingly, even if one or two pillars do not perform in a particular period for any reasons the other two pillars will pull up the sales.

Pune Real Estate Market Uniqueness

Pune is a unique market. We have real estate companies which sells through their own sales team and other companies sell 100% through Channel partners, few companies use both for selling. Recently one Realtor from Delhi, who is entering Pune market very soon, enquired from me is Pune predominantly a direct sales market or Channel Partners market. My answer to him was channel partners are important pillars for sales in Pune, but they are not the only pillar. The biggest risk to depend on a single pillar is, it can take you for granted and you may be hostage to its needs /demands at a later date.

Success Copy Formula

I would also like to caution, generally the moment in a competitive market a builder gets success. Others start copying the same campaign model. Well its a known thing in management parlance, your best competitor is yourself. Do a market study, evaluate and plan. Do not copy anyone, it may not work for you.

Way Ahead

COVID-19 has set the stage rolling, customer satisfaction/engagement, would not be a physical but digital presentation of sales pitch and closures. So like it or not very soon, you may find homes being sold on the e-commerce platform too.

Therefore prepare for the digital era never experienced before. We also need to strengthen all four pillars of sales digitally, so that customers are virtual with us- anytime, anywhere and buys at a click of a button.

On 13 Feb 2020, at Taj Lands End, Bandra Mumbai, The World Digital Marketing Conference was held and, I had the honour of receiving a citation for being among “100 Smartest Digital Marketing Leaders”. The other recipients were from across a vivid spectrum of the digital marketing ecosystem.

I would like to enumerate the future trends takeaways for everyone’s benefit that emerged during the panel discussions.

  1. AI will rule digital marketing in times to come, hence companies need to transform to digitization whilst continuing with digital marketing to ensure customer satisfaction and service.
  2. Voice search is getting more traction than text search on google, hence SEO on voice is equally important now.
  3. Content swamping is affecting the quality of web content, hence it is necessary to have short but explanatory content on the web, such that for any amplification user does not go to other websites. The window of opportunity is less, hence be to the point of keeping it interesting. It is understood that Google is working on penalizing bad quality articles.
  4. If we speak of vernacular news content, the researched findings indicate, local issues interest the audience more than national issues. On entertainment channels, web series, dramas, and dance take priority over music, etc.
  5. Agency models on retainer ship for digital marketing are slowly giving way to the in-house digital teams, as it provides more focussed and better traction in terms of lead generation. Agencies will get on to provide add ons like VR, AR, PR, which would not be cost-effective for in house teams to get skilled on.
  6. Social proofing and identification connecting will be used to provide better sales connect, and ROI.
  7. For service providers like aviation industries, it is getting mandatory to have websites available in all languages for better footfall, and provision of additional benefits to customers to book through company websites.
  8. Phygital(the combination of digital and real-life experiences) is catching up for the ultimate customer experience.

SSB Interview Myths & Facts – 4

SSBs are not looking for super human beings but average individuals who possess and display reasonable level of OLQs in line with their present age and have potential for improvement during their training period, if selected.

Question: - Why is the rate of selection in the SSB on the lower side? Are the tests so difficult?

Answer: - SSBs are not looking for super human beings but average individuals who possess and display reasonable level of OLQs in line with their present age and have potential for improvement during their training period, if selected. The tests are designed to match this requirement. Rejections are caused mostly due to lack of understanding about the system of selection, incorrect grasp and comprehension of the specific requirements in the various tests, wrong notions and myths, glaring lack of exposure and very poor practical/applied knowledge of their own subject, inability to perform in a team, lack of general knowledge about one’s own country/ city or place of work, overconfidence, hesitation/ nervousness, inability to justify what one has claimed as one’s own achievements and finally, lack of self confidence and mental stamina to even take minimum risk.

Importance of Front office

Reception
Front Office

Being a big company needs a reputation to be maintained, its not about the boss’s personality, it’s about the aura and feel when someone visits your office for the first time.

The trigger for this write up was from the article , on linkedin yesterday, read on by clicking

The gentleman in the above mentioned article had been for an interview and was waiting for his turn in the front office. Most likely due to unprofessional conduct on part of that company HR , despite three hours wait , the interview did not happen. Now the three hours wait in front office must have been a lesson and good insight into companies morals, ethics, discipline , employee happiness and code of conduct. All this is directly related to reputation management in terms of impression gathered by person waiting in front office and word of mouth spread of experience in front office as perceived by the visitor.

Let me also share another example , which happened personally with me some years ago. I had an interview scheduled with a reputed builder whose office was situated in the annex of a reputed leisure club. I happened to be accompanied by my elder daughter who had been recently appointed to INC and was very excited with the code of conduct of employees therein. So we reached the builders office, and informed the receptionist, that I have an appointment with HR for an interview. The interview was for an senior position and hence it was expected that HR would have informed front office about the same, since I was the only candidate that day. However the receptionist , insisted , to tell her what post , I have applied for and how etc, do I know the HR and so on and so forth. Then she asked me to have a seat and wait. Hereafter it was a lesson of most – what not to do , was happening at the air conditioned beautifully crafted reception(Front Office), despite camera’s been available probably no one was monitoring at HR/Admin/EDP level.

As I was waiting with my daughter in the reception, firstly the receptionist was not fluent in english, and her talking pitch being high was creating unwanted chatter at the front end. She had got her tiffin and wanted it to share with office boy, who insisted that in AC environment we should not eat. Then another buddy came and was showing her a video clip on whatsapp and they were giggling aloud. Then her personal phones started in marathi concurrently intercom calls were happening most of them missed. Whenever any employee came to check why calls were not being received, she was giving trivial excuses like had gone out , or was on another call etc.

Imagine a prospective buyer, or a group of investors visiting the same office and seen such conduct , would they have invested. Anyway then , I reminded the lady about the time and my interview schedule, herein she called up the HR and then asked me to visit him. There was a office boy sitting there, but he was on his mobile so, I was told to go one floor down and ask for Head HR office, when I reached down , it had a security access card system to enter, and the card was with the office boy, hence had to come back to take the same…….., finally had my interview and tried my best diplomatic skill to indicate to HR that front office needs training to hone their skills.

As me and daughter walked towards the car , she said dad please do not take a job here, the front office story tells the weakness of management and lack of accountability in this company. I could just say, how true. The point herein is with my 27 years experience and my daughter’s few days experience with a top class corporate, both came to the same inference about the company, just by being at the reception for a while.

So to conclude , it would be appropriate to say front desk is the mirror of your company conduct and an important factor to reputation management. Therefore it is pertinent to place skilled and able staff in the frontdesk , who are by conduct and mannerism able to further reputation of the company and make everyone visiting, feel important and provide a happiness factor.
